Viva Vigan: A CELEBRATION OF VIGAN’S CITYHOOD.
The Vigan Town Fiesta is celebrated in the Philippines' far north, in the Ilocos region. At the moment, the festival attracts a large number of tourists who come to see the show's presentations. Vigan Town Fiesta features arts and crafts displays, carnivals, street dancing performances, and other lively performances that celebrate the spirit of Vigan's cityhood.
The entire celebration is dedicated to St. Paul the Apostle. The saint is regarded as the town's patron saint. Following that, there are some establishments dedicated to him located throughout the city. Also, a few days before the Vigan Town Fiesta, another celebration kicks off the entire Town Fiesta. The Vigan Fiesta is the most anticipated event for all Ilocanos, so the town is packed with locals during this time. Every January 22, the Longganisa Festival is held, complete with a longganisa-themed parade and other events. Longganisa is a native version of Mexican salami that has a garlic flavor and has become a breakfast staple. Various stalls selling Vigan's pride can be found along the town's streets. The Longganisa Festival is a celebration of the town's cultural and natural heritage. The highlight of the event is the longganisa street dancing.
The dancers wore vibrant costumes made of the indigenous textile abel. Their costumes were complemented by beautiful headresses made of feathers and other indigenous materials. They held plates with longganizas in their hands. They danced to the same music, which was lively. Following the opening program, the various groups began their dance from the city hall and proceeded to the beautiful site of Heritage Street. It's a truly wonderful pageantry that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Festivals like these bring joy to our lives and strengthen our sense of community. They are an excellent way to celebrate heritage, culture, and traditions, as well as to entertain and educate attendees through the traditions that we have.
